Scat: The 31 Card Game
Accessibility
Ways to make the table easier to use, and where there is still work to do.
Reviewed 7 October 2026, app version 1.0, build 5. We checked the app’s code and ran automated accessibility audits on iPhone and iPad simulators. These checks do not replace testing with people who use assistive technology.
Play at your own pace
There is no timer on your turn. Tap the stock or discard pile to draw, then tap a card to discard it. You do not need to drag cards or make a timed gesture. Between hands, the game waits for you to continue.
Your game is saved on your device after every move. You can close the app and choose Resume Game when you return. How to play is available from the question-mark button at the top left of the table.
Screen-reader labels
Your cards have labels with their full rank and suit, such as “Queen of Hearts.” The stock, discard pile, strikes, and main controls also have spoken labels.
Full VoiceOver support has not been verified. Some information in the guide’s card illustrations and the after-game review is not included in the spoken descriptions. Turn changes are shown in text, but are not automatically announced. Some unavailable cards may still be described as buttons. We are treating these as areas to improve.
Less motion
Turn on Reduce Motion in Settings → Accessibility → Motion. The opening responds to this setting, cards fade into place instead of flying and turning, and the winning celebration is removed.
Some table transitions, including opponents moving to new seats, can still animate. Reduce Motion support is partial.
Text size and visibility
The settings and after-game review use system text styles in many places. Much of the table and guide uses fixed-size text, however, so increasing your device’s text size does not enlarge all of the game’s writing. Scat does not yet offer full Larger Text support.
Small labels and some text over the table need better contrast. You can try your device’s Zoom feature in Settings → Accessibility → Zoom. The iPad layout also gives the table and cards more room.
More than color
Cards show suit symbols as well as red or black color. Strikes are marked with an × inside a circle; unused strikes are empty circles. Hand results are described in words, and the after-game review uses check and × symbols alongside color.
Sound and other controls
The game does not require sound. Information about turns and results is presented as text. Voice Control, Switch Control, hardware-keyboard navigation, and braille-display use have not yet been fully evaluated.
Something difficult to use?
Please write to scat@tacocatacomb.com. Tell us which device and app version you use, which accessibility setting or assistive technology you rely on, and where you got stuck. A description is enough; a screenshot is optional.
